One is a slender-fingered, snake-eyed eugenicist, the other wants to become the leader of the free world – but may have scuppered his plans after remarks he made about Muslims. The latter, Donald Trump, sparked outrage when he called for all Muslims to be barred from entering the United States in the wake of terrorism attacks in Paris and California. His comments have even caused him to be compared to fictional character Lord Voldemort. The author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, has weighed in on the issue, saying Donald Trump is not comparable to Lord Voldemort – he is worse. These comparisons began when the Trump campaign issued a statement saying: “Donald Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” His officials confirmed that the ban would apply not only to immigrants and refugees, but tourists as well. Mr Trump was unmoved later telling a crowd: “I. Don’t. Care.”
The fictional character Lord Voldemort dedicated a large portion of his life to killing a young boy – Harry Potter – because of a prophecy. He also had a hateful murder campaign against ‘Mudbloods’ – people without ‘pure’ wizard blood, and did not respect ‘Muggles’, non-magical humans. Mr Trump is, unlike He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, a real-life person who has called for a wall to be built in America to keep the Mexicans out.
