CNN’s Don Lemon tried to get Gene Simmons to take a swipe at Donald Trump during an interview. It didn’t go exactly as he planned. Instead Simmons, who has starred on The Apprentice before, defended Donald Trump. He called him a friend and told the media huckster, “what you see is what you get with Donald Trump.” That’s exactly right and was the perfect response. [1] Simmons’ family immigrated to the US from Israel and he understands Trump’s position on illegal immigration. “I’m an immigrant,” Simmons told Lemon. “I came to this country because my mother and I wanted a better life.” “We did come in legally and I do understand that there’s an issue with a lot of Americans,” he added. “They’re afraid. ‘What’s happening to America, the borders are unguarded.’ I get it!” Too bad Lemon doesn’t. From the Conservative Tribune:
CNN mouthpiece and professional pot-stirrer Don Lemon could take a county fair chili cook-off and turn it into a divisive national political issue. However, when he tried to get a rise out of KISS frontman Gene Simmons about Donald Trump, the long-tongued one refused to take the bait, instead praising many aspects of the 2016 presidential candidate’s political beliefs and values. While Simmons agreed that Trump could sometimes be “ungentlemanly,” he called him a friend and said that “what you see is what you get with Donald Trump.” [2]
Gene Simmons has a lot of respect and admiration for Donald Trump. Not to be deterred, Lemon tried to give Simmons another opportunity to dump on Trump, asking him if he’d have Trump change his rhetoric. Gene didn’t fall for it. “Donald Trump is a loving family man,” Simmons told Lemon. “His children are terrific. He’s anti-drug, anti-booze. The guy is a straight shooter.” [1] Simmons said he is convinced Trump’s candidacy is serious. “He is in it to win it every time, with anything he does,” he said. “That’s what makes him fascinating and perhaps that’s what resonates with people.” [9] Gene expressed surprise that anyone would even ask him about the politics. “I suspect the end of the world is coming soon because when CNN wants to know what Gene Simmons thinks about one of the presidential candidates, next thing you know people will be asking Jeb Bush what he thinks about Led Zeppelin,” he said. [9]
Just how many people have to come forward and testify that Trump is a good guy? A nice guy? The media keeps bashing him, just as the Republicans do. What Nikki Haley did last night in the SOTU response was disgraceful. Instead of attacking Obama, she slammed The Donald. With the approval and sanction of Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnel and the rest of the establishment Republicans, I might add. If they are looking for a villain, the media and RINOs might want to gaze into a mirror. [1]
