A group describing itself as ‘Christians for Bernie Sanders’ has a website devoted to twisting Christian teachings to suit Bernie Sanders’ socialist politics. [1] It’s possible that the people behind the site are Christians or think that they are Christians but what’s more likely is that they’re just left wing Bernie Sanders supporters who are trying to make it look like there are Christians who support Sanders. Most certainly just another leftist fraud. The site is called The Gospel of Bernie. Here is how they explain their assumption according to which “there is common grounds” between the message of Jesus Christ and the message of Bernie Sanders:
We don’t think that Bernie Sanders is a saint or anything weird like that. We just think that, whether Bernie realizes it or not, he is singing a lot of Jesus’ hit songs. By accident Bernie has created a Jesus Tribute Band. He’s a Jesus impersonator and whether this imitation is intentional or not, its good news for the people.
Clearly, these people are totally insane. This echoes the previous madness where Peter Stuart, a Bernie Sanders supporter, recently said to the press during a political rally in Alabama: “I think Jesus was a socialist.” [3]
You can see some of their sickening graphics below:
Quoting Matthew 10:8 is an interesting choice here and definitely a worthwhile sentiment. But trying to relate the use of the word “free” in scripture to a conversation about who pays for a government program is a bit of stretch, isn’t it? I also like the highlighting of the phrase “Good News” which ties Bernie Sanders to a common description of the gospels. [2]
