Lily-Rose Depp, 16, has joined a long string of young female celebrities who are shunning traditional labels when it comes to their sexuality. Lily Rose Depp just came out as sexually fluid in this message posted to artist and Self Evident Truth project creator iO Tillett Wright‘s Instagram account. The 16-year-old model and daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis was featured in iO‘s photo with the caption, “I’m so proud of my baby girl @lilyrose_depp. She decided she wanted to be in @selfevidentproject because she falls somewhere on the vast spectrum, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome her to the family. She’s a tiny gem of a good human. #prouduncle #weareyou.” [1] The Self Evident Truths project is a “photographic document of 10000 people in the USA that identify as ANYTHING OTHER than 100% straight.” As of November 2014, Wright had reached 8,447 portraits. [6] “The entire point of this project is to help young people feel good being true to themselves,” the project explained on an Instagram of Lily-Rose modeling one of the LGBTQI T-shirts on their social media account on Sunday, Aug. 23. [3] Depp isn’t the only big name who’s posed for the project — Cara Delevingne, who’s been open about her sexuality, also lent her face to the cause. [5]
Lily-Rose, who has inherited both of her famous parent’s good looks, made her modeling debut in April 2015 in Oyster magazine, which perfectly summed her up as having “the face of an angel and a magnetic presence beyond her young year.” [3] She’s already making a name for herself. It was previously reported via the Inquisitr that the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis posed for a provocative ad for Chanel. [8] Rose is also making headlines for her controversial new photo shoot with Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell. The two models posed for a cozy photo shoot with Love magazine. The teen has also starred in several movies under the direction of Kevin Smith. Of course, Lily’s public coming out isn’t without some speculation about her love life. [7] An article from Celebrity Dirty Laundry slams Lily’s sexuality, claiming that she could just be bi-curious, “full-blown bi, or maybe she doesn’t like guys at all and considers herself a lesbian.” [7] [21] The report also goes on to claim that Lily-Rose is involved with the same woman who tried to hook up with Johnny Depp’s current wife, Amber Heard. Meanwhile, other reports have noticed that Stella Maxwell has been spending a lot of time with Lily-Rose lately. The Victoria’s Secret Angel was rumored to be dating Miley Cyrus, but the two haven’t been spotted together in the past month. [20]
Of course, Lily-Rose is only the latest in a recent string of female celebrities coming out as not straight in recent months. Miley Cyrus famously opened up about being gender fluid in a particularly candid interview with Paper magazine back in June 2015. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl,” Miley explained in the interview before admitting to having had relationships with women in the past. A month later, Cara Delevingne discussed her sexuality with Vogue magazine, admitting that it took her “a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it.” We for one like to think that love goes well beyond labels alone, and commend these young women for speaking honestly and openly about such a private aspect of their lives.
