Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam and professional race baiter, told hundreds gathered at a D.C. church on Wednesday that it was time to take down the American flag. The always controversial Farrakhan spoke at the Metropolitan AME Church, where he evoked suspected Charleston shooter Dylan Roof. sad that the folks at the AME church would invite a hatemonger and racist like Farrakhan to address them, but that is not the point of this article. Farrakhan was once a permanent and fearsome fixture on the civil rights scene, but has kept a relatively low profile in recent years amid talk of illness and claims of obsolescence as the Internet gives way to a new breed of modern-day rights activists. During his speech, he went on to say that the American flag was a symbol of racism and should be taken down. “White folks march with you because they don’t want you upset in the city,” Farrakhan said, downplaying the outpouring of support Charleston has received. “They don’t give a damn about them nine. When they arrested that skunk …. they took him to the Burger King.” “Man just killed nine human beings, and you know what they were saying? ‘You did a good job. Kill all them n******!’” he added. The demagogue then turned his attention to Old Glory. Farrakhan dismissed debates over the Confederate flag, saying it was the American flag which has long stood for racism. “I don’t know what the hell the fight is about over the Confederate flag! We need to put the American flag down because we’ve caught as much hell under that as the Confederate flag!” he said. “Who are we fighting today? It’s the people that carry the American flag,” Farrakhan continued. Now that he has established that black people are at war with white Americans, Farrakhan spells out the enemies for the crowd: “What flag do the police have? What flag flies over the non-Justice Department? What flag flies over the White House?” However, the Justice Department is currently under its second black Attorney General in a row and they throw massive resources into civil rights cases against white people that don’t pan out. As for Obama, he the only one we hear using the N-word. Of course, Farrakhan and his ilk have always hated the United States.
Farrkhan is the leader of the Nation of Islam, an Islamic religious movement that was founded in Detroit in 1930. Although it says its mission is to improve the spiritual, mental, social and economic condition of African Americans in the U.S., it has often been labeled black supremacist and is associated with anti-Semitism. It is also listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Farrakhan is also no stranger to sparking controversy — most recently making threatening comments towards people who “physically” confront his group, The Examiner reports. He also called for violence after the events in Ferguson, Missouri, last year. The Nation of Islam promotes black separatism, meaning they oppose integration into what they label as “white society,” oppose interracial marriage, and generally want their own communities and institutions. They are fully opposed to Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of an integrated society. To Farrakhan, the United States will never not be racist, because he believes all whites are inherently racist. Luckily, Farrakhan’s brand of race baiting isn’t palatable for many black Americans who want to live and coexist with their fellow Americans. Even sadder than the fact that the AME church allowed Farrakhan to speak was the fact that they folks in attendance applauded some of these most heinous comments. This lunatic makes Al Sharpton look like a decent guy– and that’s saying something. As long as we have guys like Farrakhan spouting this kind of hatred, the future of race relations in America will not be looking all that great. We don’t think Louis Farrakhan fully appreciates the efforts of the American government to end slavery, enact civil rights, end segregation, and dismantle the KKK. Hundreds of thousands of white Americans fought and died for black equality under “that flag” and if he can’t recognize that, he should pack his sh*t and leave.
Here’s the local ABC News network coverage of the event.
On Tuesday, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh made a prediction that the American flag would “come under assault” after the Confederate flag. At the time he said, “Do not doubt me.” Ironically, Limbaugh said the American flag would be next because, as he frankly recognized, “The American flag has flown over a slave nation much longer than the Confederate flag did, folks. The American flag has flown over all kinds of atrocities.” Taking the problem from another angle, Limbaugh also warned that liberals would want to get rid of the flag because they are afraid that it makes people more conservative. The radio host cited a 2011 study from the University of Chicago that found that one exposure to the image of the American flag skewed people’s beliefs, attitudes and voting behavior a bit to the right. So after witnessing the confederate flag hysteria Rush predicted that this put down of the american flag would happen next and got a lot of criticism – and then, this video comes out: protesters burning the American flag in the wake of the South Carolina shooting. Then, worse: Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said those horrible things about the american flag.
The topic was discussed on FOX News:
KILMEADE: And people cheered. Is Rush’s prediction closer to becoming truth, or is he [Farrakhan] just an extremist marginalized years ago?
Here to discuss: Fox News contributor Erick Erickson. Is Farrakhan on to something?
ERICK ERICKSON, REDSTATE.COM: Oh, I think this is a large issue for the left, but you got to keep in mind: Rush’s point wasn’t about the flag per se, but about the advance against the American culture itself – and the flag is just a symbol of that. Well, once you convince people that the Confederate flag is racist, then you go after the monuments; and then, the county names and the lakes in Minnesota. And then, you go against the American flag, because, you know, there was slavery under it, and you begin to move towards your cultural leftist utopia – that really doesn’t exist, but you won’t be allowed to point it out once you get there.
The Fox News host highlighted that Erickson had mentioned that “there were a couple of places in California where they’re banning the American flag.” The conservative commentator replied that “schools in California during Cinco de Mayo celebrations…banned the display of American flags on shirts. The University of California at Irvine student government wanted to ban the display of the American flag on campus. The University of California itself said that it’s a micro-aggression to call the United States a melting pot, or call it the land of opportunity.”
