A former Bryan Planned Parenthood Director says she finally has proof her former employer had quotas for abortions. Abby Johnson made national headlines when she left the Bryan Planned Parenthood clinic in 2009 and began rallying support against Planned Parenthood and abortions. The Bryan clinic closed in 2013. Planned Parenthood vehemently denies Johnson’s claim that the non profit organization has quotas for abortions. Johnson said she was going through some old things recently when she ran across a budget form from the Bryan Clinic. A line item on the budget reads “Income, self pay (surgical).” Next to that is a unit total of 1,135 with a cost of just over $300 each. Johnson said the “unit” number is the amount needed for the fiscal year and that the only surgical procedure offered at the Bryan clinic was abortions. “I didn’t think I had any proof. I talked about it all the time, I talked about it when I gave speeches, I talked about it to the media, but I had nothing to actually back up what I was saying,” said Johnson. Johnson soon came across another document, given to her by a former Planned Parenthood worker. It was an award for “exceeding abortion visits,” given to a clinic in Aurora Colorado by the Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. “It was an award showing that they had exceeded the amount of abortions that they were required to sell at their facility,” said Johnson. Johnson said Planned Parenthood confirmed the award was legitimate, but denied having abortion quotas. On their website, Planned Parenthood said “First, and plainly, Planned Parenthood does not have “quotas” for any of our services.” They go on to say “Nobody does more than Planned Parenthood to prevent the need for abortion. We are proud to provide sex education and birth control to so many people. We are also proud to provide abortion services to women who have made the decision to end a pregnancy.” “I think just a little honesty in this situation would go a long way,” said Johnson. “and for them to admit that abortion is a business model for them. It is a product that they are selling.” News 3 made several phone calls to Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. So far, they have not returned our calls.
