Morrissey caused huge offence today when it was reported in The Mirror (via Metro) that he said the massacre in Norway, in which a right-wing extremist launched a bomb attack in Oslo and shot dozens of innocent teenagers, paled in comparison to the the actions of fast food chains. “We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead“, Morrissey said. “Though that is nothing compared to what happens inMcDonald‘s and Kentucky Fried S–t every day.” He made the comment at a gig in Warsaw on Sunday in defence of animal rights, but it has drawn obvious criticism from the media and fans alike. One fan wrote: “The killing of children compared to KFC & McDonald’s?! What an a–hole!” Another said: “I really don’t know if that is forgivable? Or of any use to the vegetarian cause?” But despite the response from observers, the singer appears to stand by his comments. A spokesperson said: “Morrissey has decided not to comment any further as he believes his statement speaks for itself.” It is not the first time the singer has caused controversy with his comments on animal rights issues. In September last year, he said he felt that Chinese people were a sub-species because of their treatment of animals.
