Eliza Medina was poop-searched
Believe it or not, the loving hand of the nanny state is now reaching as far as your kids’ underwears. Administrators at a public school in Texas are investigating why more than 20 elementary school students were lined up and forced to drop their drawers in an unorthodox examination that many parents say went too far.[2] Two dozen elementary school students were reported being divided into male and female groups at a school in the small North Texas town of Gustine, where they were ordered to enter separate rooms and expose their underwear for “poop inspections.” [2] [4] This happened after feces was found on the floor of the school gymnasium, and school officials wanted to find out who did it, according to WFAA. [5] Some of the children tried to speak up when they were ordered to drop their pants by school officials. Eliza Medina, an 11-year-old student, said she was one of those that attempted to speak out against it, but it didn’t matter.“I said I didn’t want to, but I was told I had to because all the kids had to.” [5] [7] She added: “I felt uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to do it,” the young student claimed. [5] “I felt like they violated my privacy.” [5] Medina’s mother, Maria, says she was angered when she learned teachers told kids “To pull down their pants to check them to see if they could find anything. […] I was furious… I mean, I was furious,” the outraged mother said. [5] She expressed understanding that finding feces on the gym’s floor is an issue, but so is inappropriately touching their children. [10] “If you can’t do your job or you don’t know what you’re doing, you need to be fired. You shouldn’t be here.” [2]
The school superintendent, Ken Baugh, admitted that the investigation went a bit too far. [5] “That’s not appropriate, and we do not condone that” Baugh told WFAA. [3] [6] However, the superintendent also said he was under the impression that kids had only been asked to “lower their pants just a little,” according to reports he’d reviewed. [5] Eliza countered the educator’s claim, describing the search as going all the way down to “Like… to where your butt is.” [5] The superintendent said disciplinary action against school officials could be possible after he investigates the incident. [3] Baugh said the investigation should be wrapped up this week. [4] [12] It’s not clear whether the investigation had yielded a suspect. Parents have said they plan to protest against the action at a school board meeting on Thursday. [8]
